Surprising Advice for a Happier and More Meaningful Life
Here’s a question for you: If you were told that you were going to have to move away from your current town in a mere thirty days, how would you most like to spend your remaining time?
That’s precisely what my colleagues and I asked a group of college students in a recent study. We were curious what their priorities would look like as they imagined their time in their college town drawing to a close.
We asked them to think about the sorts of things they would most want to do if they really did have only thirty days left. Who would they spend this time with? What would they do? They checked in with us weekly, reporting on their actions and feelings. Compared to a neutral control group, those living the month like it was their last showed a significant increase in happiness over the course of a month and also at a six-week follow-up.
